Tyson

Tyson is a 1 year old male, 26 lbs....Very sweet & loveable! This poor baby was found abandoned in his previous home. Imagine waiting for your family to come back...only, they NEVER return. This special boy is so deserving of a loving family & a new place to call home. He loves attention & thinks he is a lap dog! He has a great personality! What a beautiful boy!

Tyson has been adopted by a very nice family that loves him to pieces. More details and an updated picture to come.

Roxie

We rescued Roxie on August 4 from a neglectful and abusive home. She took to us right away; burying her head in our laps and wagging her entire body (not just her tail). She wanted to play with our cats, but they would have none of that! Roxie still has the scratch marks on her pretty little nose from some too-close-for-comfort encounters. Eventually, she won them over and we even caught the 'scratcher' rubbing on Roxie's legs last week.

When we rescued another dog (and then another), Roxie was SO happy to have someone to wrestle with AND it gave us a much-needed break from her energetic romping. People remained her favorite toy, though. I was wondering if we'd ever find just the right home for her (we had several inquiries and most of them would not have been good for Roxie). I started reading the 'dogs wanted' section of the classified ads at Petfinder.com...I wrote to a family in Melbourne that was looking for 'a young dog or puppy' and sent them to our site to look at the picture of Roxie. They responded right away with "She's adorable!!" and we started talking. We drove out on Sunday and visited their home. They adored Roxie and she, although a bit uneasy from the ride, really took to them too. She met one of their cats and made friends and kissed the dad (who, as a result of a motorcycle accident is blind and nearly bed- ridden). Dad enjoyed the kiss, so that made our final decision. Roxie now lives across the state in her forever home.

Our house seems so quiet (and dull) now. I had no idea what an awesome feeling I'd get from placing her in just the right home. I can't compare it to anything else I've done.  NEXT!!!

PROOF POSITIVE THAT OUR FOSTER & ADOPTIVE FAMILIES
MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Zena

Zena is a very sweet 1 ½ year old, Black Lab/Hound mix who was rescued from a high-kill shelter on her last day. Zena was heartworm positive, you could see every rib on her, yet she still wagged her tail and had a sparkle in her eye despite the pink slip of paper on her cage that stated "OK to euthanize!" Her foster mom immediately fell in love with her and wanted to give her the chance to see how wonderful life with a loving family can be. Zena truly blossomed while she was in foster care. She went through heartworm treatment, gained 10 pounds and learned doggie manners.

Zena now lives with her new forever family which includes Matt, a 12 year old boy and Shadow, their 10 month old black lab. They have a large back yard where they can run and play and Zena now lives near a dog beach where she will get to experience the beach for the very first time! When she met her new family, her foster Mom walked her through her new home letting her investigate all the new smells. When they got to Matt’s room and Zena was told this is where she would sleep, she immediately laid down on carpet at the foot of Matt's bed and rolled around as if to mark where she wants to sleep. This wonderful family was very excited to welcome Zena into their lives . . . and Zena was very excited to meet them!

A note from Zena's Foster Mom:
"Saying 'goodbye' to this beautiful, sweet girl was more than a little difficult! As many of you know, Zena was my first foster. She and I have had many wonderful times together . . . and a few trying times together in the very beginning. We all watched her blossom into a well mannered and healthy young girl with a tremendous zest for life! I’m certain she is grateful to S.A.F.E. for saving her life, dedicating funds to help her get healthy and finding her a loving home to spend the rest of her life. You all are wonderful for making this happen! Not only for Zena but the hundreds of others you’ve helped along the way! Thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes!" - Julie

Kiki
KikiKiki is a beautiful 1 year old, tri-colored Basset with very long floppy ears and a very sweet personality. She's great with children and other dogs. Kiki was an owner surrender, along with a litter of her pups, because her previous owner didn't have the time for her that she deserved.

The pups are weaned and gone and Kiki's found her forever home and is very well loved! Her new family writes, "She is making our lives so much fun! ...Thank you for our Kiki."

Eva
Eva is a very beautiful 40 lb 4 year old Belgian Malinois with a calm & quiet temperment. She is an extremely sweet dog that does well with other animals, women & children, but was a little timid around some men.

Now Eva is another lucky dog with a forever family all her own. She has a new brother named Spencer to play with, also a shelter rescue. Her new parents have to hide the ball or she puts it in your lap, or nudges it with her nose for you to play constantly.

Her new mommy reports that "every day is a blessing with Eva. She seems to relax more & more in her new surroundings. Eva just had her vet visit and passed with flying colors!!"
